A new study has shown that men have more than DOUBLE the risk of head and neck cancers compared to women.  This is because of  HPV (Human Papillomavirus)

HPV is a very common virus that lives on our skin or in skin like areas eg the mouth, genital areas and anus.  Usually there are no issues, our bodies protect us from the virus but in some people their immune systems can’t fight the virus and cancer can result

Around 10% of men had oral HPV compared to 3.6% of women which is the reason for their increased risk

I love the new year, it is filled with so much hope and expectation.  All the possibilities just waiting to be taken.

One of my favourite things is opening up a new journal or diary.  There is something really exciting about a blank sheet of paper.  I am totally into technology but you just do not get the same buzz with a blinking cursor

November is Mouth Cancer Action Month…bet you didn’t know that!  It is not a sexy topic  but it is really serious news.

It is estimated that more than 6000 people will be diagnosed with mouth cancer this year, but early detection could save over 90% of their lives…so you can’t afford not to know about it!

In my youth (yes I know I keep talking about getting old, my insecurity, showing that I want people to reassure me…)  it used to be rare, seen mainly in patients over 40 years old….OMG that is me!!

However we see it now in much younger people.  It kills more people than cervical and testicular cancer combined and used to be 5x more common in men than women, but not anymore with our lifestyle changes

Risk Factors?

Oral Sex! Got your attention didn’t it? HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) has been linked to this disease and it is transmitted via oral sex. Stay safe

I have just recovered from the fantastic show that was 10yy live in Earls Court

It was wonderful to meet so many of you that are fans of the show. We had a great stand and in between whitening the teeth of the contributors that were chosen for a makeover and being on stage, I managed to fuel my passion of talking about teeth to anyone that would listen on our stand!

Next year the show will be bigger and better and I can’t wait
